General Safety Information

Valley City State University's General Safety Rules are considered minimum safety standards for usual work conditions and will be adhered to by all employees who enter a specific job location.

Please familiarize yourself with this general safety information. If you have questions, talk to your Supervisor or the Safety Office.

VCSU is committed to providing a safe and healthy learning environment for its employees. However, it is your individual responsibility to:

  • conduct yourself in a safe and proper manner;
  • comply with all safety rules and requirements;
  • report every university-related injury or illnesses to the Safety Office, your supervisor or campus health services,
  • wear protective equipment if required for certain job tasks;
  • participate in employee orientation; and
  • participate in continuing education which is conducted on a departmental level.

ALL injuries MUST be reported to the Safety Office within 24 hours of the incident.

Additional Information

1. All employees will receive training in the following areas:

  • General safety rules
  • Safe operating procedures
  • Ergonomic hazards
  • Claims management program

2. Participate in continuing education of safe operating procedures for unique work environments. The supervisor, in conjunction with the Risk Management Coordinator, will identify such employees that require additional training. Examples of unique work environments include the following:

  • Hazard communication standard ("Right to Know" law)
  • Confined space
  • Lockout/Tag out
  • Radiation
  • Noise conservation
  • Bio-hazard
  • Pesticide application
  • Forklift/heavy equipment
  • Laser
  • Extreme cold/heat
  • Chemical
  • Video display terminals/office safety

Safety belts must be worn when driving any VCSU leased/owned vehicle!
