Flexible Course Offerings

Our online program is designed for working teachers. Coursework can be completed at your convenience from anywhere an internet connection is available. The Masters of Education in Technology Education requires a minimum of 36 hours of coursework an action research report, a field experience, and the presenting of a comprehensive portfolio. The curriculum is structured around a set of course requirements that provide a broad foundation in education, research, and technology. In addition the the 12 hours of core courses, students will complete the following 15 hours of required courses:

  • Standards-Based Curriculum and Methods
  • Design for Engineering
  • Invention and Innovation
  • Design, Technology, and Engineering for Children
  • Research and Assessment in Technology Education

An additional 6 hours of electives is needed to complete the coursework in the degree as well as 3 hours of Special Program Requirements.

Complete Online Program

VCSU developed the first and only online, standards-based programs in Technology Teacher Education. VCSU has designed the concentration for teachers at either primary or secondary levels wishing to pursue a Master's Degree. The curriculum focuses on preparing the next generation of Technology Education teachers to better meet the demand for this shortage area. The International Technology Education Association estimated a Technology Teacher shortage of 13,000 by the year 2006. Curriculum in this concentration provides students with an understanding of the International Technology Education Association (ITEA) and the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) and meets the North Dakota Education Standards and Practices Board (ESPB) state standards.

Meets National Standards

The curriculum is structured around a set of core values that provide a broad foundation in education, research, and technology. Technology Education concentration meets the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association (HCL).
