Bowen receives ‘Difference Maker’ award

Chuck Bowen receiving award from colleaguesChuck Bowen, heat plant systems technician, recently received the Difference Maker award. His nomination read, “Chuck’s many talents and skills have been a tremendous asset to VCSU over the years. He approaches every challenge with expertise, determination, and a solution-focused mindset. Known for his intelligence, friendly demeanor, and great sense of humor, Chuck has become our trusted maintenance guru, expert troubleshooter, and even occasional bat-catcher. We are grateful for his dedication and fortunate to have him as part of the VCSU family.”

2026 VCSU vs UJ Summer Reading Challenge Results 

The final day of the 2026 VCSU vs UJ Summer Reading Challenge was Aug. 14. The University of Jamestown won with 1,817 points to VCSU’s 1,642. Despite our loss, we fought hard, with 108 Vikings reading a total of 1,903 books. Major shoutout to our top 11 readers: Clarissa Z., Tuya D., Kim W., Aurora B., Diana V., Kim H., Katie W., Toni S., Tony D., Ava B., and Erica B.! The Summer Reading Challenge will return in the summer of 2027 and will be a tie-breaking competition, as both campuses now have two wins under their belts.  

Viking Sports Update

FOOTBALL
The time is here! The first football game is tomorrow night on the road as the VCSU Vikings head to Marshall. Read more about it here. You can listen to all the action on 1490 AM/96.3 FM KOVC. Pregame is at 6:15 p.m., kickoff at 7 p.m. with the Voice of the Vikings Ryan Cunningham on the call. The first home football game is the 8th Annual Ag Bowl Presented by First Community Credit Union on Thursday, September 3. Dickinson State will be coming to Lokken Stadium/Dacotah Bank Field for a 6 p.m. kickoff.  

VOLLEYBALL
The Viking Volleyball team was in Sioux City, Iowa last weekend for the Siouxland Sports Academy Invitational. VCSU played four tough matches, one against a top 20 team. Read about the weekend here. This weekend, the Vikings head to Omaha, Neb. for the Bellevue tournament Friday and Saturday. The tournament link to follow the Vikings can be found here. 

BOOSTER CLUB
The VCSU Booster Club 2026-2027 Campaign is under way. The VCSU Viking Booster Club is the most vital link supporting Viking Athletic Scholarships. The Membership drive is the main way that the VCSU Viking Booster Club raises funds for scholarships. These scholarships go to VCSU student-athletes and help them earn degrees, while competing at a high level. At VCSU we all jump in the boat and grab an oar. WE ALL ROW!
