COVID-19 Update from Residence Life
Hello Viking Family,
Due to growing concerns over the COVID-19 situation, Valley City State University will be shifting to an online curriculum for the remainder of the semester. With this, we will close all residence halls on campus and facilitate the process for residents to return to campus and move their belongings out. The move out process will be conducted between Monday, March 23 and Friday, April 3 between the hours of 9AM and 6PM daily. Please contact your Hall Director to arrange your check out and move out time during these days.
Any resident within 5 hours of VCSU is expected to gather their belongings within the next two weeks. The residence halls will be available for move out from 9AM to 6PM each day. We also will be staggering move out to have a limit of no more than 10 people in the halls at one time in order to stay in compliance with CDC recommendations. This is all in hopes of minimizing risk of students and families. We ask that each resident has a maximum of 2 additional people assist with move out.
If you live more than 5 hours away from VCSU and you are unable to return to campus to move your belongings out, accommodations can be made to have your belongings gathered, inventoried, and stored on campus in a locked area. Belongings can also be shipped back to families further than 5 hours away if necessary, in which case shipping will be covered by the resident and their families. For any items that are stored at VCSU, the University does not take responsibility for lost or damaged items. Items that are stored on campus will be in locked areas of each of the residence halls. Residents can pick up their belongings when you return to campus in the Fall.
Once all rooms have been packed away and emptied, we will be moving directly into summer housing. We will provide time for Facilities’ staff to mobilize on sanitation of all residence halls.
Residents requesting to stay on campus should contact their hall directors to make individual arrangements. Decisions regarding refunds and credits for resident contracts and meals plans are still being made by the university. Once decisions are made, we will communicate directly with you about how and when that will occur. Thanks for understanding.
I hope this plan shows our willingness and preparedness for this potential situation ahead of us. If you have any questions on how we plan to proceed with this, please do not hesitate to reach out to Brittany Nathan (Brittany.nathan@vcsu.edu), Richard Israel (richard.israel@vcsu.edu), or Peter Smithhisler (pete.smithhisler@vcsu.edu). Thank you and please be safe moving forward!
Sincerely,
The Residence Life Team
