Military Services Office established at VCSU

Brad Mattson
Staff Sergeant Brad Mattson

Valley City State University Graduate Studies and Extended Learning has been working for many years to provide education pathways for military service members through professional development coursework, career training classes and the Troops to Teachers program. Although Troops to Teachers has been struggling since 2020 with funding, VCSU is still working with military representatives to promote the Master of Arts in Teaching program and Transition to Teaching as pathways for service members to enter the teaching profession.

In November 2023, the Office of Graduate Studies requested approval to provide military representatives space on campus so they can meet with current students about their education benefits, service, officer training and other assistance programs. VCSU is excited to welcome its first military representative, Staff Sergeant Brad Mattson, from the Army National Guard to campus! Sergeant Mattson earned his degree in education and taught for 8 years prior to becoming a National Guard representative and will be a valuable resource for students. VCSU will be working with other branches of the military so representatives are also available to students who may be considering a career in the military or would like to know more about benefits and services.
