NDSCS and VCSU Sign Career & Tech Ed Articulation Agreement

Agreement Creates a Seamless Pathway for Students
Valley City State University (VCSU) and North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS) have formally signed a new articulation agreement creating a seamless, affordable pathway for students pursuing a degree in career and technical education (CTE).
The agreement allows students to complete an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree at NDSCS and transfer directly into VCSU’s Bachelor of Science (B.S.) program with a major in Career and Technical Education. Students who complete the identified coursework at NDSCS will be able to easily transfer credits toward bachelor’s degree completion, reducing duplication of coursework and accelerating time to graduation. This degree was designed for existing or potential trade and technical post-secondary teachers as a pathway leveraging previous CTE-based coursework towards a bachelor’s degree.
The agreement was signed July 30 at Valley City State University.

By building on each institution’s unique strengths, we are expanding opportunities, keeping higher education accessible and affordable, and helping students pursue meaningful careers right here in North Dakota. Together, we are developing the next generation of career and technical educators while strengthening our communities, workforce, and state for years to come.”
After completing their AAS degree, NDSCS students may choose to remain in Wahpeton, N.D., and complete remaining articulated coursework at NDSCS in combination with VCSU courses delivered online or face-to-face. Academic advising, student support services, and financial aid coordination will be provided collaboratively by both institutions to ensure a smooth transition from NDSCS to VCSU. Graduates of the program will earn a Bachelor of Science in Career and Technical Education from VCSU.

This unique partnership provides students with a high-quality teacher education program to address the teacher shortage and meet workforce needs of the state.”
The partnership reflects a shared mission by NDSCS and VCSU to support students, strengthen the teacher pipeline at the post-secondary and secondary levels, and meet the evolving educational needs of North Dakota and the region.

Viking Sports Update
BASEBALL
We want to welcome Phillip Hindes to Valley City State University. Hindes is the newest member to the Viking Athletic Department. He is the new assistant baseball coach at VCSU. Read more about Coach Hindes at vcsuvikings.com.
VOLLEYBALL
There is a change in the schedule for VCSU Volleyball. The home opener will now be Sept. 4 versus Montana Western. The match will be Faculty and Staff Night and will be played in Graichen Gym with first serve at 6 p.m. Montana Tech will be coming to Graichen on Sept. 5 for a 1 p.m. first serve. The Mayville State match that was to be at home on Sept. 2 will now be in Mayville at Lewy Lee Fieldhouse. For any changes in scheduling for games, go to vcsuvikings.com for updates.
FOOTBALL
The early sounds of football have been heard on campus with a mini-camp that ran from Aug. 1-4. Freshmen will be reporting on the Aug. 5 and returners on the Aug. 8 to kick off fall camp. The Vikings will have a scrimmage Aug. 19. The first game will be Aug. 27 when VCSU travels to Marshall, Minnesota to take on Southwest Minnesota State.
ATHLETICS
Changing of the guard! Deborah Feuerherm, long time office manager for Viking Athletics is retiring after 31 years. Her last day is Aug. 7. She has provided steady leadership and support to our coaches, student-athletes, and staff, and making sure all the ADs stay in line. She was the first face that people saw coming to the Bubble and going to games, and that familiar face will be hard to replace. Stop in over at the Gaukler Family Wellness Center before Aug. 1 or during the first week back in the Bubble and wish her well. She’s not leaving town, and we will see her a lot within the community and coming to games where she can cheer instead of work. Dennis McCulloch has announced that Deedra Freomke has accepted the position as Office Manager for Viking Athletics! Her start date will be the afternoon of Aug. 10.
