VCSU Launches Shooting Sports Team
Competitive trap shooting will begin Fall 2024
Valley City State University (VCSU) has officially added competitive shooting as a coed intercollegiate sport for students.
The VCSU Shooting Sports team will begin traveling to trap competitions Fall 2024.
“We are excited to offer this sport for students to compete in and officially represent VCSU,” President Alan LaFave said. “Clay target sports have been growing in popularity and we want to ensure every student at VCSU has the chance to participate in activities, competitions, and groups they enjoy. Adding the Shooting Sports team to our list of official sports is something that we, as a campus, are very excited to see happen this fall.”
“I encourage any student interested in joining the Shooting Sports team to come visit VCSU to tour our facilities and learn more about our team’s tuition assistance program,” team coach and professor Dr. Nick Galt said. “Members of our VCSU Trap Club have been competitive at the state level for years and I’m excited to see how the new Shooting Sports team can take that participation to the next level.”
The student-led VCSU Trap Club was established in the fall of 2020. Recent highlights include a 1st place finish by Kaden Schafer in Single Trap at the 2023 Fall Shootout with a perfect score of 100/100. The team also placed first in American Trap at the 2023 North Dakota State Collegiate Clay Target Championship. The team practices at OH Range in Valley City.
