DeLorme Speaks at Fort Ransom

DeLorme Speaks at Fort Ransom
VCSU Professor Dr. Andre DeLorme was at Fort Ransom State Park at the park's Elm Tree Amphitheater on Saturday, August 28 to participate in a special program on mussels and their relationship with the Sheyenne River.

Delorme has been studying the Sheyenne River and the mussels' species in it, and presented his findings and explorations of the Sheyenne River.

Telemarketing Calls with Fake Caller ID

There have been a few reports of people receiving a call at home with caller ID information reporting it as a VCSU phone number. The call is usually an automated message about consumer credit or credit card services. Using fake caller ID information has been around for a while but has increased recently with voice over IP systems. Telemarketers and others with both good and bad intentions have adopted this practice as a new tool to get you to answer the phone.

These calls in no way are a result of VCSU switching phone systems, but rather that VCSU has the entire 7000 block of phone numbers for the Valley City exchange.

VCSU has been in contact with the Valley City Police Department who has received many reports of calls in the last 3 months where caller ID information has been faked. The faked caller ID information being used is from various Valley City numbers including businesses and private residents. Unfortunately at this time faking caller ID information is legal. Making matters worse, services like *69 call back and *57 call trace are not effective in obtaining the real calling number.

A bill in congress to outlaw using fake caller ID information has passed the US House and is currently sitting with the US Senate. Until that bill or a similar one becomes law, expect that this practice will continue.

Voice Mail Zero Out Option

The default action for the voicemail option to press zero (0) to speak with someone else will send the call to the VCSU information desk until configured otherwise.

If your voicemail greeting instructs callers to press zero to speak with someone else in your office or department and you have not already contacted us, please email CJ Kotta or Tyler Tufte with the number you would like it to go to.
