BCHS Season 13 Lecture Series Opens September 16

BCHS Season 13 Lecture Series Opens September 16
The Barnes County Historical Society Lecture Series Season 13 presents Dr. Sara Hagen with "Music Education in China" at 7:00 pm on Thursday September 16, 2010.

Dr. Sara Hagen spent 10 days exploring music programs in Beijing and Shanghai with a group of about 60 music educators from across the United States. Differences in our systems were discussed in forums with Chinese music educators and administrators. Concerts and tours of the various schools were also made available to the teachers. The group visited important historic sites such as the Great Wall and Tiananmen Square and attended a circus performance. Dr. Hagen will show digital movies of Chinese children performing on native instruments and well as photos of schools with a summary of the differences in opportunities for music learning.

Dr. Sara Hagen teaches music education, theory and business at VCSU and teaches five online classes in music for the university. She speaks regionally and nationally on the subject of music technology and the innovative strategies used at VCSU on a regular basis. She currently serves as the president of the North Dakota Music Educators Association, conducts the Valley Children's Choir and teaches piano through the Community School of the Arts.

All Lectures are at the Barnes County Historical Society Museum and held in conjunction with Valley City State University. They are free and open to the public.
