Trick or treat time!

Trick or treat time!
WHAT: Trick-or-Treating at McCoy Hall
WHEN: Monday, October 29 from 7:00 – 8:30 pm

Children of all ages are invited to come to McCoy Hall to trick-or-treat.

Feel free to bring your children, nieces, nephews, younger brothers or sisters or children you babysit for to this event.

Health care representatives seek your input

Representatives from many service and health care facilities in Valley City and Barnes County have gathered in recent weeks to provide input regarding community health, looking at both strengths and weaknesses related to the local community health system. They now need your individual input to get a clear and concise picture of how you view community health (including all Barnes County) and where you see specific needs.

Input will include such areas as support, risk behaviors, health concerns, dental care, hospital services, and mental health services.

You are asked to take a few minutes to complete this health survey. This will ultimately help us formulate and implement an overall community health improvement plan. CLICK HERE to complete the survey.

We thank you for taking time to complete this important health survey. Together, we can make Valley City and Barnes County a healthier place to live.

For more information, contact Camille Settelmeyer, Assistant Administrator / Mission Lead at Mercy Hospital (845-6000) or Theresa Will, City-County Health District Director (845-8518).

Congratulations to Katie!

Viking Club Tennis struggles at UW Stout

Viking Club Tennis struggles at UW Stout
The Viking Club Tennis team traveled to Menominee WI October 20-21, 2012 to compete in the UW Stout USTA Tennis-On-Campus tournament and a chance at locking up a seat at the USTA National tournament in March. VCSU was in second place going into the final fall tournament at UW Stout and only trailed NDSU by 10 points. The team finishing first in the fall standing is guaranteed a seat at the national tournament.

Things did not go well for VCSU from the start; only having 1 woman traveling this past weekend meant that VCSU would automatically forfeit the woman's doubles round and start every match down 0-6. This put all the pressure on the men to not only play well, but hold their opponent to as few games as possible in the men's double and singles rounds. Despite having 3 of our top men's players traveling this weekend, they struggled in every round to win sets in any of their singles or doubles matches. VCSU drew NDSU in the first round of pool play and it was evident early that it was going to be a long day and not just because it was a match played in dense fog, dropping the match 7-30. VCSU then dropped the last pool match to a UW Stout #1 team we usually don't have problems with, but only managed a win at mixed doubles and lost the overall match 8-23. This put VCSU in the 5th/6th place match against UW Stout #2 team and the tough day continued, dropping this match 5-30 and leaving VCSU in 6th place out of 6 teams. Only the default 10 points were awarded towards the fall standings.

The club team is now waiting for the final standings in the fall series, which should have NDSU in first place and then a close call for second between VCSU and Carleton College who finished second at UW Stout this weekend. There are still two chances left for the VCSU club team to make a national bid, but they will have to wait for the sectional championships in February to have a shot at either of them.

Round by Round Results:
Pool Play Round #1:
VCSU - 7
NDSU - 30

Pool Play Round #2:
VCSU - 8
UW-Stout #1 - 23

5th/6th:
VCSU - 5
UW-Stout #2 - 30

Thank You

Thanks to everyone in the VCSU Community for your cards, emails, calls, and personal visits to convey condolences and sympathies with the recent passing of my father, Skip Shirley. Your messages have been so appreciated and meaningful during a particularly difficult time. A special word of thanks to those who attended the funeral or prayer service. Dad enjoyed attending many VCSU events and activities during the past 4+ years. He attended the past four Commencement Ceremonies, the annual Scholarship Auctions, Homecoming parades, several VCSU Tuesday events in Fargo, a large number of Football and Basketball games, and two of the Arizona Reunion alumni events. He really loved the beautiful VCSU campus, and so enjoyed his visits with faculty, staff, alumni, students, and other supporters in the VCSU Community. He was truly proud of his association as a VCSU Viking! On behalf of my mother and our entire family – THANK YOU.
