VCSU presents student-directed one-act plays

VCSU presents student-directed one-act plays
VCSU Theatre presents the one-act play festival with productions directed by students in VCSU course THEA 365. The plays will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on April 25, 26 and 27. VCSU faculty and staff are welcome to attend a preview rehearsal on Wednesday, April 24 without cost. Performances will take place in Theatre 320. Productions include the following:

Lecture scheduled April 25

The Barnes County Historical Society lecture series season 15 presents Stephanie (Messer) Mayfield speaking on “Understanding Community Issues and Agriculture in Brazil ” 7:00 p.m., Thursday April 25, at the Barnes County Museum.

In 2011, Mayfield was selected to participate in the Rural Leadership ND program organized by NDSU's Extension Service. The program consists of 10 seminars--seven of which are held around the state of North Dakota, one in Minnesota, one in Washington D.C., and most recently an international seminar held in Brazil. Her lecture and slide show at the Barnes County Museum on April 25 will include her experiences in understanding community issues, culture and agriculture in Brazil.

All lectures are at the Barnes County Historical Society Museum and held in conjunction with Valley City State University. They are free and open to the public.

VCSU student scholar symposium scheduled April 30

The VCSU student scholar symposium will be held Tuesday, April 30, from 11:00 a.m. to noon in the Skoal and Upper Lounge area of the Student Center. This is an opportunity for students to showcase their academic work from the 2012-13 academic year. Plan to attend and view the posters, art, Powerpoint/Prezi, demonstrations and performances.

Gegelman presents at NDRA conference

Gegelman presents at NDRA conference
Tricia Gegelman, associate professor in the School of Education and Graduate Studies, attended the 2013 North Dakota Reading Association Conference, "Literacy is Legendary," in Jamestown on April 12-13.

Gegelman presented “Science Write” to about 40 educators. Her topic addressed the importance of teaching how to implement science observations in elementary classrooms and meet Common Core writing standards. The hands-on nature of the presentation provided attendees with opportunities to write, listen and present. Six students also attended the conference.

Staff Senate updates

• The Agenda for the April meeting and minutes for the March 2013 Staff Senate meeting is posted at X:\Institution\Offices\StaffSenate\2012-2013 Minutes.
• The next meeting will be Thursday, March 25, at 11:00 a.m. in McCarthy 255.
