Lecture Series continues in 2014

Wes Anderson will present “A 16 Millimeter Film Fest” at 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 16, at the Barnes County Museum as part of season 16 of the Barnes County Historical Society Lecture Series.

Anderson will draw from the museum’s collection of mid- to late-20th century 16 millimeter educational films on a variety of topics, including national and international politics, the Cold War, the Vietnam War, the environment and health issues.

Anderson, curator for the Barnes County Museum since 1997, is a graduate of Valley City State University and director of the VCSU Planetarium.

The presentation is open to the public free of charge.

VCSU alumna Kathy Lentz, M.Ed. ’07, a 5th-grade teacher at Washington Elementary School in Valley City, received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. She was one of 102 teachers across the nation receiving the honor.

Administered by the National Science Foundation on behalf of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, the award is the highest honor that the U.S. government presents to K–12 math and science teachers.

Honorees receive a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation to be used at their discretion. They also are invited to Washington, D.C., for an awards ceremony and several days of educational and celebratory events, including visits with members of Congress and the federal administration.
