VCSU to celebrate Earth Week with festival on Tuesday, April 22

VCSU to celebrate Earth Week with festival on Tuesday, April 22
VCSU will host its third annual Earth Day Festival Tuesday, April 22, from 5:30–9 p.m. at Medicine Wheel Park in Valley City. The festival will highlight the celebration of Earth Week, with other events planned on the VCSU campus and Valley City throughout the week.

Earth Day Festival activities begin Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Medicine Wheel Park. (In the event of inclement weather, the festival will shift to VCSU’s Student Center.)

Featured performers are the Buffalo River Dancers, a Native American group from the Fargo–Moorhead area, who will perform at 7 p.m.

Free hotdogs and chips will be served to the first 200 attendees compliments of Sodexo, VCSU’s dining services provider. Free tree seedlings will be given to the first 100 families attending.

Children attending the festival will have the opportunity to do hands-on projects using recycled materials, and they may also participate in a variety of old-fashioned games and win earth-friendly prizes at 6:30 p.m.

Entertainment will include music performances by Jamestown musicians Marie and Mike, and members of Buffalo Road.

The festival will conclude with opportunities for star-gazing through telescopes.

Other activities planned throughout the week include Jackie Owen, VCSU education instructor, presenting “iWorm: Do You?,” a brown bag presentation on vermicomposting at noon on Wednesday, April 23, in the President’s/Norway rooms of the VCSU Student Center.

VCSU parking spots available through online auction

Ever dreamed of having your own reserved parking spot at VCSU? This is a unique opportunity to purchase a reserved parking spot that would be yours exclusively from August 2014–August 2015. You get to choose the spot in any of VCSU’s permit parking lots. Facilities Services has offered four parking spots to auction off as the online component of the VCSU Foundation’s Scholarship Auction.

If you are the successful bidder for a parking spot, we’ll furnish a personalized reserved parking sign. What a great way to raise money for scholarships and reserve a front row spot for yourself!
Also available on the auction is a reserved parking place and two reserved seats at VCSU home basketball games.
The online auction begins Tuesday, April 29, at 10 a.m. and ends at noon, Tuesday, May 6. When it goes live, the auction will be found online at
