S-U grading policy + change in last day to drop

Good afternoon, students! I hope you have had a good week of classes and remain mentally and physically healthy as we work through this challenging semester.

I have two items to share with you this afternoon:

1.  APAC and President LaFave have approved a temporary change to our S-U grading policy. For the Spring 2020 semester only, students may elect to switch a course from graded to Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory (S/U) grading basis after grades are posted in May.

The following programs are EXCLUDED from this policy; courses in these programs may NOT be switched to S/U grading:

  • Elementary Education course work
  • Professional Education sequence
  • Athletic Training
  • All Graduate programs

No grade points are assigned. A maximum of 15 semester hours of S/U graded courses may count toward graduation. Work of C level or better is required to receive an S grade.

Process: Students wishing to switch a course to S/U grading after grades are posted for the Spring 2020 semester must complete a grade change petition (available from the Student Academic Services office) and meet (virtually) with their advisors to discuss their request. The petition and advisor recommendation should be emailed to academic.affairs@vcsu.edu; the VPAA will make the final decision.

Timeline: students may choose to submit a petition between May 21, 2020 and Sept. 4, 2020.

Please do not submit any requests until May 21, 2020. Be sure to talk with your advisor – there may be unintended consequences, and we want to make certain you choose your best options.

2. Per the waiver signed by the SBHE Chair and the Chancellor , VCSU will extend the last day to drop or withdraw from campus to May 8, 2020 (for Spring 2020 term only). Students may use self service to drop a course through May 8; students who withdraw from campus should contact Kaleen Peterson to complete the withdrawal process.

If you have any questions or concerns related to academics, feel free to email me !
