Exciting developments on the horizon

Nov 9, 2020

Dr. Alan LaFave, VCSU PresidentComing to work each day at this extraordinary institution that emphasizes student success and learner-centered innovation is a privilege. There are so many positive developments happening here, in and out of the classroom. Our students are the reason we are here, and it’s the hard work of those students and our faculty, staff and alumni that continues to propel us forward.

We have all seen the impact of the coronavirus on our society – all areas have needed to adjust their operations to continue in an effective, safe, and as normal a manner as possible. As we all deal with the challenges of the elevated risk level in our county, we continue to focus on keeping our VCSU active case numbers as low as possible to minimize the disruption to learning and activities on campus and in our community – and as I’ve mentioned previously, COVID-19 has not prevented us from planning for the future.

On that note, I’d like to make you aware of a very exciting initiative in the final planning stages at VCSU.

VCSU’s mission to provide our students the best possible experiences in the classroom and in competition continues, but we have outgrown our student activity and athletic facilities. The developments we strive to make include providing additional valuable student scholarship support and repurposing one of our storied buildings for our flagship teacher education program.

In an effort to further develop our campus, VCSU has exciting news to share. The Valley City State University Foundation is finalizing its plans for a $25 million capital campaign, the first in its history. Titled “Forward Together: The Campaign for Valley City State University,” this initiative will address each of these needs and position the entire university for long-term success.

There has never been a better time to be a Viking! In addition to our campaign, we have continued to see record-breaking enrollments semester after semester. VCSU is one of the fastest growing regional four-year institutions in the Midwest and has been named a U.S. News “Best College” for 23 consecutive years.

We will unveil more details of this campaign on Tuesday, November 17 during a special event for the campus and community.  This live-streamed event will be held in the W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse. We hope you can join in to hear more specific details of our plans for the future as we move Forward Together. We are very grateful for the support of the Valley City community, Barnes County, and the entire region and we look forward to working with all constituents as we transform VCSU’s direction and opportunities for the next 50 years!

Go Vikings!!
