Mental Health training for VCSU employees

This fall, the VCSU Cabinet will host a two-part mental health training. Faculty and staff who complete both portions of the training before Nov. 24, will be compensated on Dec. 15 with an additional $500. The first part of the training is an in-person event in Vangstad auditorium with staff from Prairie St. John’s. Employees can attend the in-person training on Oct. 26 or Nov. 18. The second part of the training will be a video completed via Safe Colleges.

Students participating in Tech Wars

The Computer Systems and Software Engineering (CSSE) department hosted a Tech Wars competition Friday, Oct. 15 in collaboration with North Dakota Farmers Union (NDFU) and the Jamestown Regional Entrepreneur Center (JREC). The event was held at the NDFU Camp in Jamestown. A total of 36 students in grades 7-12 from six area schools in North Dakota gathered to complete a challenge using Scratch. Student submissions were judged by CSSE professors.

COVID-19 Campus Information

VCSU is encouraging all members of campus to get vaccinated and every member of campus to make safe decisions in regard to wearing a mask, physical distancing and hand washing.

Viking Sports Update

Football
Oct. 23: Dickinson State 14, Valley City State 7
The Viking Football team dropped a defensive clash with Dickinson State on Saturday, falling 14-7. The Vikings are now 6-2 overall and 4-2 in the North Star Athletic Association. 

Volleyball
Oct. 18: Jamestown 3, VCSU 0
Oct. 22: Bellevue 3, VCSU 0
Oct. 23: VCSU 3, Dakota State 2
Viking Volleyball posted a 1-2 record this week, which included a big 5-set win over Dakota State University. The Vikings are now 12-14 overall and 7-3 in the North Star Athletic Association. 

Cross Country
Viking Cross Country raced in its final regular season meet on Saturday in Yankton, S.D. Jasmine Barnes led the Vikings with a 28th place finish out of 129 runners in the women’s 5K.

Men’s Basketball
The VCSU men’s basketball team officially opens its season on Tuesday night with an exhibition game against Minot State University. The Vikings will host the Beavers for the game. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. at The Bubble.
