VCSU Homecoming recap

VCSU homecoming week has come to a close! The week started with the 39th Annual Bill Osmon Fun Run on Monday. Throughout the week, students participated in a variety of activities including coronation, a talent show, magician/comedian, themed bowling, critter stuffing, yard games, a movie night and so much more! The weekend came to a close with alumni activities on campus and the Hall of Fame ceremony on Friday followed by an alumni honors breakfast, parade, a Viking win over Mayville  and a postgame celebration for all!

VanHorn presents at CSTAND

Shannon VanHorn, professor for communication arts, presented at the Communication, Speech and Theatre Association of North Dakota’s (CSTAND) annual conference in Mandan, N.D. Sept. 16-18.

VanHorn and VCSU professional communication alum and adjunct faculty member, Kyle Vareberg, presented Tik Tok, Pinterest, and More! Integrating Social Media into Communication Classes. Vareberg presented virtually. He is an assistant professor in communication at Northeastern University, Tahlequah, Okla.

She also joined Vareberg and Kim Weismann from Williston State College in Reflecting on Online Engagement, Moving Beyond the Discussion Board.  VanHorn was one of 18 Hall of Fame members honored at this conference. CSTAND is comprised of K-12 speech, debate, and student congress coaches and theatre directors as well as communication faculty throughout the NDUS system.

VCSU global exploration club October fundraisers

The Valley City State University Global Exploration Club will hold three events in October to help raise money for a trip to Costa Rica.

The first fundraiser will be a Fun Run/Walk on Oct. 16 around the Jefferson School Loop. The second will be a spaghetti dinner at the Valley City Eagles Club on Oct. 18 from 5-7 p.m. and a Haunted House at the VCSU Allen Memorial Library Oct. 29 – 31 starting at 6 p.m. There will be a $5 entry fee for the Haunted House.

Oct. 2: VCSU 49, Mayville State 0
The No. 19-ranked Viking football team recorded a shutout on Saturday, winning 49-0 against Mayville State in the VCSU Homecoming game. VCSU is now 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the North Star Athletic Association. 

Volleyball
Oct. 2: Bellevue University 3, VCSU 0
Oct. 3: VCSU 3, Dakota State 2
Viking Volleyball split a pair of road matches this weekend, losing at No. 8 Bellevue but bouncing back with a 3-2 win at Dakota State. The Vikings have a 6-13 overall record and are 3-2 in conference play. 

Baseball
Sept. 29: Dickinson State 12, VCSU 0; VCSU 10, Dickinson 8
Oct. 3: VCSU 24, Jamestown 4
VCSU Baseball exploded for 21 hits and 24 runs on Sunday during a 24-4 win at Jamestown. The Vikings improve to 6-1 overall this season. 

Golf
Valley City State University golfers Rory GentzkowJocelyn Braunberger and Hayley Shanks each placed in the Top 5 after competing in the 36-hole UMary Fall Invite on Sept. 26-27 at Hawktree Golf Club in Bismarck. Read more at http://www.vcsuvikings.com/article/4151
