VCSU student Hunter SandWhat year are you at VCSU?
I’m a junior.

What attracted you to VCSU?
I chose to attend VCSU because I liked the “small town” atmosphere and feel. I also enjoyed how friendly everyone on campus was; it truly felt like a second home.

Why did you choose your specific major?
I am pursuing my elementary education degree, with a STEM endorsement, because my mom, who is a fourth grade teacher, has shown me the impact teachers truly have on their students, and I want to inspire kids to get out of their comfort zone and be able to reach their full potential.

What do you enjoy most about your major?
I enjoy the fact that I will constantly be growing and learning, and that every day is a new “adventure.”

How is VCSU helping you reach your goals?
As an education major, we get quite a bit of valuable classroom experience, before getting into our own classroom, and I have been equipped with many different teaching methods I can use to help differentiate my classroom from others.

Which activities or groups are you involved in on campus?
I play basketball as a team captain, run the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as the president, lead the Board of Student-Athletes as the conference chair, help with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes as a leader, and am a member in the Special Olympics College, Association of Student-Athletes, Council for Student-Athletes, National Society of Leadership and Success, Alpha Lambda Delta, and Spanish club.

What do you enjoy most about VCSU?
The people are amazing. Everybody on campus cares about you and celebrates your accomplishments, even the small ones.

What are some of your hobbies?
Outside of playing sports, my hobbies include hunting, fishing, kayaking, doing puzzles, and hanging out with friends and family.

Any advice for students thinking about attending VCSU?
You won’t regret coming here. The people and “small town” feel are amazing, and you will be able to walk around campus and see or talk to people that you know!
