VCSU students hone PR skills by creating videos for tourism efforts
Twenty-one Valley City State University students in Jonna Ziniel's public relations course have applied their PR skills to a real-world application--creating promotional videos for the Sheyenne Valley National Scenic Byway and Valley City Convention and Visitors Bureau. The 21 students in the VCSU class have created 18 videos, each 2-5 minutes long, highlighting locations in and around Valley City.

Valley City mayor, VCSU president sign Earth Day proclamation
Bob Werkhoven, mayor of Valley City, and Steven W. Shirley, president of Valley City State University, signed a joint Earth Day proclamation at the Valley City Commission Meeting held April 15 at City Hall in Valley City.

VCSU to hold Earth Day Festival on Monday, April 22
Valley City State University will host its second annual Earth Day Festival Monday, April 22, from 5:00–9:00 p.m. at Medicine Wheel Park in Valley City. The festival will highlight the celebration of Earth Week, with other events planned on the VCSU campus and Valley City through Thursday, April 25.

Valley City State University will host a Regional Science Olympiad for teams of high school and junior high students on campus Thursday, March 28.

Four students inducted into Phi Alpha Theta history honor society
Four VCSU students – Sarah Silvernail (Lisbon, N.D.), Dustin Slaamod (Park River, N.D.), Allison Veselka (Tower City, N.D.), and Scott Westby (Sheyenne, N.D.) – were inducted into the Psi Beta chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the national history honor society, Wednesday, March 20.

VCSU Earns U.S.News Ranking for online Master of Education program
January 15, 2013 – Valley City State University's online Master of Education program was ranked as a top program in the second annual edition of Top Online Education Program rankings by U.S.News & World Report. Appearing in the Best Online Graduate Education Programs, VCSU's M.Ed. earned the #22 spot of 143 and is the only program offered by a North Dakota college or university to be ranked in this category. These rankings were created in response to today's high demand for graduate education provided in a flexible manner.

Dr. Elden Lawrence to Speak at VCSU Commemoration of U.S.-Dakota War
A commemoration of the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862 will be held December 2, 2012 at 2:00 pm in Froemke Auditorium in Foss Hall on the campus of Valley City State University, and will feature keynote speaker Dr. Elden Lawrence.

VCSU faculty, alumni assume leadership roles in ITEEA
VALLEY CITY, ND, November 21, 2012 –The professional and life members of the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association (ITEEA) recently elected three VCSU alumni and/or faculty members into leadership positions with significant responsibilities in the international association.

State of the University Address today at 3:30 pm
VCSU president Dr. Steve Shirley will present the annual State of the University address today at 3:30 pm in Vangstad Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public. The presentation will also be available via webcast at http://www.vcsu.edu/media/.

Faculty and staff contribution rate increases to 96 percent
After a challenge by President Steve Shirley, the participation rate for faculty and staff giving to the VCSU Foundation increased from 63 percent in 2011-12 to 96 percent in 2012-13, the highest giving rate on record. The increase netted an immediate gain of $8,000 in scholarship contributions plus pledges that will sustain an increase in contributions for coming years.

Eight to be honored by VCSU Alumni Association
The VCSU Alumni Association will recognize eight alumni at the Alumni Honors Breakfast, which will be held at the VCSU Student Center on Saturday, September 29 at 9:00 am. The Honors breakfast provides the VCSU Alumni Association with an opportunity to present fellow alumni with the Certificate of Merit and Alumni Service awards.
